Administrative Team


Debra Calvert

Ms. Calvert was named principal at William A. Diggs Elementary School in 2016. She was previously the principal at Dr. James Craik Elementary School for two years. Calvert is a longtime educator with Charles County Public Schools and began her teaching career at John Hanson Middle School in 1989 as a language arts teacher. She also taught English at Thomas Stone High School and served as an instructional specialist at Benjamin Stoddert Middle School, where she worked with teachers on curriculum and instruction. In 2004, Ms. Calvert was named the instructional specialist for middle school reading and provided leadership for the middle school language arts/reading program with regards to curriculum, staff development, interventions and program needs. After two years, she was named the coordinator of middle school instruction and oversaw all instructional programs at the middle school level. Returning to the school setting in 2008, she served as a vice principal at Mattawoman Middle School for six years.

Ms. Calvert has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (K-8) from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree in Educational Policy, Planning, and Administration from the University of Maryland. In 1999, she received the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award for excellence in teaching and has been recognized as a Charles County Exemplary Employee. A proponent of the Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports Program (PBIS), Ms. Calvert believes in establishing high expectations for academics and building strong positive relationships with staff, students, parents, and community members in order to create an environment where all students have the opportunity to succeed.
